Job Description Department: Campus Services

Reports to: Manager - Campus Services

Scope And Purpose The Campus Services department at the American University of Kuwait (AUK) is seeking the position of Senior Facility Technician. The successful candidate will maintain and repair building systems, supervise junior technicians, and potentially coordinate larger facility projects. They are responsible for ensuring a safe, functional, and efficient environment within a facility

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Monitor electrical systems including generators and switchgear.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance during routine and emergency works.
  • Ensure critical systems uptime and support PPM planning.
  • Maintain basic records of electrical faults and resolutions.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on MDBs, DBs, and electrical panels.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair of lighting, sockets, and emergency circuits.
  • Monitor and maintain fire alarm systems (detectors, panels, MCPs, sounders).
  • Supervise low-voltage (LV) systems: UPS, structured cabling, data panels.
  • Assist with electrical setups for university events and temporary needs.
  • Coordinate material requests for maintenance activities.

Qualifications Education:

  • Certification or training in facility maintenance is a plus.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Facility Technician or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of building systems, equipment, and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Skills/Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of electrical systems and components.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment and systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong understanding of building codes and safety regulations related to electrical systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with other technicians and departments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Certification or training in electrical systems or a related field is preferred.
  • Electrical maintenance and troubleshooting (LV and power).
  • Generator and UPS systems.
  • Fire alarm system diagnostics.
  • Electrical panel servicing and load management.
  • Experience with all types of motor starter connections and configurations (DOL, Star-Delta, VFD, Soft Starters) configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Compliance with IEC, NFPA, and MEW codes.
  • Documentation and preventive maintenance planning.
